For the attention of all Steel String Builders, the clasical guys have a secret! During a discussion with Joshua, he ordered me (I don't think that's too strong a word!) to get the Romanillos book on Torres, "Antonio de Torres, Guitar Maker - His Life & Work". So being an obedient fellow my Christmas book tokens found a home. I wish I had bought it ten years ago. It is one of those anti-gravity books, absolutely impossible to put down. I know it's about a classical guitar builder, but we mustn't get too precious obout our pigeon holes. Buy it, read it, be totally inspired. Even if you never intend to build a nylon strung guitar in your life, you must read this book. Colin AS you may have guessed I like it. |

Pat, Thank you for the ebay alert on the Torres book, I jumped in and bought that one. Colin, I try to read anything and everything related to acoustic instruments. This sounds like a good one and thanks for your recommendation. Hesh, it sounded like you were going to order the book from LMI so I went ahead with the ebay purchase. The price was actually very close to the same, hope I didn't step on any toes here! Buddy |

I really can't recommend this book enough, its the most important book I own, and one from which I also draw a lot of inspiration. It takes on new meaning if you've been able to witness in real life what some Torres guitars sound like too. There is no pretense in the way Jose Romanillos approached writing the book, which makes it a very honest work of history. His conclusions are well thought out and most of the research is own. |
